I am planning a project that requires digging. Do I really need to have my underground utilities located?

Yes – If you are planning to dig on your property, Call 811 can help. This special service notifies all the necessary utility companies before you dig, which helps you avoid potential injury or even death. Just call 811 at least 48 hours before you plan to dig. We'll locate and mark the buried lines in your yard free of charge.

Stay at least 24 inches away from the marked lines when you start digging. If you're planting a tree, avoid planting below overhead power lines.
