WAVERLY, Iowa (November 15, 2011) – Waverly Light and Power board and employees recently honored outgoing board member John Wuertz at a luncheon recognizing his six years of service to the utility’s board of trustees. Wuertz was elected to serve on the Waverly Light and Power board in November 2005.
During Wuertz’s term, he contributed to progressive renewable energy programs, including the installation of Waverly Light and Power’s wind turbines and solar generation. Wuertz was a strong supporter of energy efficiency and the
Trees Forever program.
“I have a greater appreciation for the service being provided to the community after serving on the board,” Wuertz said. “The energy conservation measures Waverly Light and Power manage gives people in the community an opportunity to help control their usage.
“I am happy to see the progress being made on completing Waverly Light and Power’s third wind generator, and I look forward to following the projects I have been a part of.”
During his term on the board, Wuertz also supported initiatives to reduce emissions from local diesel generators and most recently was involved in preparations for a new electric substation that will help maintain system reliability for the community.
“John always took a thoughtful, knowledgeable approach to governing the utility, always paying attention to what was right for residential and commercial customers,” said Diane Johnson, general manager. “He was respected by fellow board members, employees and customers.”
Waverly Mayor Bob Brunkhorst appointed Ael Suhr to replace Wuertz on the utility board.
