Why Public Power

  • You control your lights by flipping a switch.  On or off.
  • If you are served by Waverly Light and Power, you also share in the control of the electricity.
  • Because WLP is community owned, you have a say in how it serves you.
  • Consumers and the community reap all the benefits.
  • And, because WLP is locally controlled, it helps set---and achieve---the economic and environmental goals of your community.

Local control at the flip of a switch:  It keeps you in control.

Making a Difference in the Community

Our community is served by a not-for-profit public power utility.  Your money stays here in our community to be spent over and over by different community citizens.  This "turnover" benefit's our community's economy.

Public power systems belong to the people they serve.  In a public power community, every citizen is a utility owner with a say in policy making.  WLP is controlled by local citizens serving on a board of Trustees.  Through public meetings, consumers have a direct voice in expressing opinions about the utility and the community's goals and priorities.

  • YOU have a direct voice in our operations.  We are run by local citizens appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.  Public meetings are held monthly with an opportunity for you to come and discuss issues of importance.
  • YOU have employees locally ready to serve you 24 hours a day.  Our employees are involved in many community organizations contributing to the quality of life right here in Waverly.
