ENERGY TIP

Although your double-hung single-pane windows with interior storms are certainly not the most energy efficient available, it would not be cost-effective to replace them from an energy savings perspective alone. As an example, for a two-foot by four-foot window this would equate to $8 in annual savings. If you compare that to the $400 or higher cost for that window, you are looking at a multiple decades payback period. So try using our weatherazation tips to help lower costs.

Compact Fluorescent Lights

An ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) will save about $40 over its lifetime and pay for itself in about 6 months. It uses 75 percent less energy and lasts about 10 times longer than an incandescent bulb.

Waverly Light and Power recommends these bulbs over incandescent but be sure to check out the newest energy efficient lights on the market today - LED lights.  As the price of LED lights come down we recommend you consider make the switch. The operating costs of LED lights are significantly lower then CFL's AND do not contain the small amount of mercury CFL's do.  Feel free to contact our energy advisors for advice at 319.352.6251.
